So this is just a quick note to let you know that the schedule for Remedy is going to change from Mon, Wed, and Fri to jst Mon and Wed for new comics. It's sort of a good news bad news situation. The problem we are having is that Remedial Comics doesn't really make any money right now. And monetizing the comic through merchandise usually means you have something to sell. We have our shirt store and we do ok at conventions but we don't have enough traffic to make much more than pizza money in ad revenue and we have no books to sell.
And that's a big one for us. Corey and I have wanted to get our first year of strips collection together for awhile but the issue is money and time. The biggest challenge without a doubt is replacing the first 40 or so comics that were drawn by the previous artist Jason. Jason's a great guy but having a book with multiple copyright holders for the artwork isn't idea. So Corey has been chipping away at redrawing those earlier strips in his own unique style. But as I mentioned, money and time are an issue. Corey has to make money at his regular job and since he's already drawing 5 comics a week he's already pretty short on time.
We considered taking a hiatus altogether. That's how passionate we are about getting these books done. The hope was that we would get the books done in time for Wondercon in March. But we looked at the schedule and the financial commitment and reality stepped in and bitchslapped us. So we won't have books at Wondercon (yes we are exhibiting at Wondercon and I'll get the banner up with dates as soon as I can). But we will have lot's of other cool things so if you live or will be traveling in the Anaheim, CA area in mid March do consider attending the show, stopping by and saying hi. We'd love to meet you.
But back to the schedule change. It's temporary. I don't like slowing down telling the story of Remedy. If I had my way I'd have Corey quit his job and we'd bring you comics all week long. But this is what we need to do to get ourselves positioned properly with the business end of things here. We're in it for the long haul. So don't worry. A minor hiccup in the road is all this is.
And there is a sliver lining; beyond the fact that we will have books to sell. Corey has already finished the first 15 or so of the original strips. So instead of a new comic on Friday's you will get a redrawn older comic. Later on today I will be posting Corey's version of our very first Remedy comic (so if you want to be reminded of what the old one looks like now is your chance). And it will replace Jason's old strip in our on line archive. And each Friday you will get another redrawn older comic until we get caught up replacing the older strips and can once again go back to a normal, 3 new strips a week schedule for Remedy.
I hope you guys are supportive of this decision. It's something we need to do. And hopefully we can get this knocked out in a few months and then back to the regular way of doing things AND we can start planning our books properly.
I hope 2012 is going well for you guys so far. And don't forget to come back and check out the very first comic later today, redone by Corey.
